Some people can say that nature and nurture have somewhat the same meaning, but they don’t, they actually have totally different meanings even though they sound the same. Nature’s meaning is the genes or predisposition of someone, somewhat like the way they were born, and Nurture’s meaning is the socioeconomic status and/or home life, somewhat like the surroundings the people were born with. In both short stories, “The science of success” by David Dobbs and “Money changes the way we think and behave” by Carolyn Gregoire show some type of nature and nurture within their topics. In the short story “Money Changes The Way We Think and Behave” Carolyn talks about people that have money acting very different/ignorant towards the ones who aren’t as wealthy. “..When two students played Monopoly, one having been given a great deal more Monopoly money than the other, the wealthier player expressed initial discomfort, but then went on to act aggressively.” (Paragraph 9. Money) This quote shows an example of Nurture because even though the money was fake the student with the most money started to act different than when he had no money. On the other hand one example of Nature is “While money itself doesn’t cause addiction or substance abuse, wealth has been linked with a higher susceptibility to addiction problems. A number of studies have found that affluent children are more vulnerable to substance abuse issues, potentially because of high pressures to achieve and isolation from parents”(Paragraph 13. Money) This quote shows an example of Nature because it is saying that the people with money usually have more problems with addiction but it’s not because of the money but because of the parents pressuring them to do good.
