Is it possible to go from a prisoner to president? Actually, no one will ever think that this would possibly happen, but Mandela did. Nelson Mandela was born on 18th of July 1918 in the Transkei province of South Africa. He was one of the 13 children. When he was nine years old his father died and his mother took him to live with his uncle, a king of Thimbu people. In 1944, Nelson joined the ANC, it’s a political party. The African National Congress’s main purpose was to ameliorate the Africans’ way of living and to give them some rights. Nelson became one of the most important leaders in this Campaign. He achieved something no one thought that will happen. He became from a prisoner to a president. People should know about Mandela’s life so that they never lose hope, and always seek for a bright future. Nelson Mandela is a modern-day hero for three major reasons. First, the circumstances and certain situations that Mandela had been through pushed him to do great things. Mandela lived a very though life with merciless circumstances. When Nelson moved to Johannesburg he found a job in a white lawyer’s office. Nelson was so poor that often he would walk ten kilometers to get to his job and ten kilometers back at night. And as Mandela being a black man he wasn’t able to use buses or any other kind of transportation. While white people used to go around by buses. Heroes must exhibit great physical and mental courage. The principles that they are fighting for are more important than their lives and freedom are. Furthermore, any sacrifice they make is justified by the worth of their injustice.
