Net neutrality can define our future with how we use the internet and the availability of the internet. This important issue depends on the Federal Communications Commission and the peoples comments towards the issue. Congress oversees the Federal Communications Commission to pass acts such as the one this year, 2017. Some protesters have fought against the Net Neutrality Act directly in front of the Federal Communication Commission’s buildings. Some believe in the Net Neutrality Act due to their receiving increased profit in their company. However, the importance of profit seems to oversee the problems with Cybersecurity. For instance, according to the “The FTC’s expanding cybersecurity influence” article the managing director named Steve Durbin states and I quote, that “There is clearly a role for consumer protection agencies and legislators to play in turning up the heat on companies who have been seen as not having done enough to secure personally identifiable and highly valuable data.” Meaning that the majority the issue is not being discussed enough and the little actions are being taken into account. Consequently, customers have to deal with issues of cybersecurity later on. Currently, eight bills pending in Congress could impact the FCC’s role in cybersecurity. This includes administrative rules, civil penalties, and authority to promulgate information. Clearly, the act is not liked among many. Currently, the FCC has voted and results show that the Net Neutrality Act will be approved. This situation can change how we use the internet on a daily bases. It affects everyone who needs the internet every day. Sadly, some will be taken advantage of by other telecommunication companies. In addition to this issue, the FCC has taken minuscule actions towards fully securing their information. The Net Neutrality Act will be difficult for some to adjust because Internet Service Providers now have the power to charge more for both reliability and speed.
