"Net Neutrality: What_Ñés the Big Deal?
Since 2015, the Federal Communications Commission_Ñés (FCC) net neutrality bill has been requiring all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to have equal internet speed, accessibility, service and content availability. Its purpose was to diminish competition between networks as well as provide users with an equally reliable spectrum of websites and resources regardless of the network it is on. The rules that were protected by net neutrality disabled networks from blocking lawful content, slowing the transmission of data, and from creating slow and fast lanes with the basis of who paid more. Recently, the Obama-era net neutrality bill has been invalidated and repealed, allowing for networks and service providers to deliver at their own speed and censor their resources. This removal of the bill has seemed to concern and strike terror into the hearts of internet users throughout the US, fearing that certain ISPs will suddenly revoke their customers_Ñé access to the internet and or particular aspects of it. With net neutrality these privately owned network corporations were forced to follow certain rules which strips them off their rights. The 1st Amendment protects the freedom of expression, so regulation of what providers can put on their networks is an invasion of their freedom of expression, and without net neutrality the providers finally have a say in their networks and can run them the way they want now.
