The Trump Administration was dealt a significant policy achievement on Thursday December 14th; a much needed one after almost a year of Democratic resistance, and Republican infighting. The Federal Communications Commission, voted 3 to 2 to repeal what is commonly being called ‘net neutrality’. Net Neutrality is a term focusing on a free and fair internet, as well as a common description for a series of policies enacted by The Federal Communication Commision. The rules, repealed on Thursday, are based in Obama Era views on the internet, and government regulation. Net neutrality has many faces, expressed through the political spectrum, subsequently many individuals, and corporations have made themselves clear on where they stand.

For example, in 2015 The FCC voted 3 to 2 in favor of Democratic leaning rules, favored, and urged by then President Obama. While this past week The FCC voted 3 to 2 in favor of republican leaning rules, favored, and urged by President Trump and his administration. During the weeks leading up to the FCC’s vote the public at large was encouraged to engage in the debate, and advocate for whichever side they supported on the net neutrality debate. With this being an issue so many are passionate about it is of no surprise a large amount of polling was done, as the vote drew near, interestingly enough, it seemed that the vote for “Net Neutrality” was not only split on party lines, but within party lines as well. According to a poll by Morning Consult and Politico, “Among registered voters, 55 percent of Democrats and 53 percent of Republicans said in the latest survey that they support net neutrality.”(Breuninger, 2017).
