An evaluation of the effectiveness of the netball-training program for a goal shooter will be undertaken by assessing its application of training principles, which are frequency, intensity, specificity and progressive overload. Furthermore, a recommendation will be made to improve its effectiveness to enable the best results for a goal shooter position in netball.

Frequency is defined as the number of times an event occurs within a certain period. Both types of training, aerobic and anaerobic are implemented in the training program. Specificity is an important principle as it is used to target muscles, fitness components, training methods and skills that are specific to the sport and position. In this training program, specificity was given a satisfactory rating. Interval, weight, continuous and skill training are all necessary training methods for a goal shooter. For example, interval training will improve the speed, agility and power for a goal shooter. However, the program does not involve shooting training, which restricts its effectiveness. The frequency of anaerobic training sessions is only once a week. Aerobic sessions are at an intensity of 90% MHR. For a goal shooter, they require specific skills, for example, being able to shoot. These three training principles need to be improved to increase the training programs effectiveness. It is recommended that the frequency of anaerobic training sessions be increased to 2-3 sessions weekly. The suggested intensity for aerobic training sessions is 55-85% MHR instead of 90% MHR. A goal shooter needs to be very good at shooting so the team are able to win, therefore the training program should include skill related training.
