1227 Words5 Pages

Neuroscience is the scientific branch that studies anatomy, physiology, nerves and nervous tissue and how it correlates to our behavior in our lives. This knowledge about the human brain can thus be applied when examining people who smoke cigarettes or any form of tobacco to feed an addiction. Nicotine is a naturally occurring product that lies in tobacco and when taken into the body releases chemicals and our bodies can become dependent on the nicotine. Once our brains get to this point they change our chemicals in our body and will not perform certain actions until its addiction is fed. Neuroscience studies the chemical changes in our body and how those chemicals affect our moods and behavior in our lives. In our day to day lives our events …show more content…

The part of the brain that receives dopamine and interprets it becomes altered when the brain becomes dependent on a substance. The receptors becomes shriveled and won't receive any dopamine and give the person a sense of happiness until it gets the substance that it is addicted to. This “damage” is not permanent however, if a person was to quit their addiction their brain would go back to normal functioning and would be able to feel happiness without the dependence of a substance. A person who is also chemically dependent might moody or might not be themselves and this is because of how the brain stops communicating with the rest of the body to release chemicals at appropriate times because it is going through withdrawal. Withdrawal for is a different experience, it can range from the shaking of hands and a cold sweat to becoming irritable and angry. This occurs because our brains are so dependent that when our bodies do not have substances circulating through our brains and other systems in our body do not know how to function. Withdrawal is what holds so many people from being able to kick a chemical dependency because the withdrawal stage is so painful and the easiest way to make it go away is to just feed the
