What could distinct a human from a clone you would say. Weird to think of, but there could be many differences. A clone could possibly do everything a human can do except the a few unique things that makes us human, which are having feelings and being creative. Many would argue that the characters in the novel Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro are not human but clones. I believe that the characters are human because even though they can’t reproduce and don’t have any parents they still have the ability to be creative and demonstrate their emotions throughout the book. Throughout the novel Ishiguro shows evidence that the students are human because of some of their personality traits. One of the main reasons where the reader can see the students do have some humanity in them is through their artwork. Ever since the students were young they were told to express their creativity. Madame told the students, “We would take your art away because we thought it would reveal your souls” (260). Madame told the students they have a soul, which makes them human. For example, Kathy something on her mind and Ruth was there for her. Kathy believed, “she hadn’t been a huge help but she’d been sympathetic”, which demonstrated Ruth was being emotionally supportive (129). Kathy having a problem also shows something which occurs with humans frequently. One has a problem and wants to let out everything they have on their chest with someone they depend on and feel comfortable confessing stuff too, which is a human characteristic. Katy also demonstrates emotions are within them because when both her friends Tommy and Ruth die Kathy gets emotional. Kathy said, “though the tears rolled down my face, I wasn't sobbing or out of control”, indicating she was upset after her friends death just like any human would be after losing a loved one
