How could these documents be used to explain a driving force behind European imperialism in Africa? These document could be used to explain through a few of different things like technological advancements, African colonies and raw materials they had, and economic factors. These are three reasons to help explain the driving force behind European imperialism and also could answer questions that go along with the main question like why the Europeans imperialized Africa. Why did it have to be Africa at all? These are all questions and ways to explain the main question.
Between the 1870s and the 1920s, imperialism increased because of economic, social, and political forces. Economically, many groups were interested in colonizing other countries because of their natural resources. Socially, they wanted to make themselves the highest and they wanted to look the best. Politically, they wanted to make more income and be the richest country. Two groups in particular were the most interested in imperialism.
The time period of 1750-1900 CE was a time of modernization and westernization following the Enlightenment and Age of Exploration which propelled Europe into being the central power of the world. It started off with the Industrial Revolution in Britain along with the emergence of capitalism which modernized European technology, weaponry, and ideas as well as giving them the desire for wealth all of which created a foundation for European imperialism in various parts of the world. Asia and Africa both fell victim to European imperialism, but to different extents both politically where Asia mostly retained autonomy while Africa fell under direct rule and socially where Africans fell victim to slavery and exploitation to a much greater degree
Human history, throughout periods, has encountered various incredibly momentous changes. One of the biggest alterations was the emergence and development of the new Imperialism, which lasted from the 19th century to World War I. This period of time was significantly characterized by intense policies. Great nations such as America, Germany, Britain and France concentrated on expanding their boundaries and influence by traveling to undeveloped countries and ruling over these regions. The Europeans either created trade or sent militaries to their colonies with the intent to force the locals to follow their directions, which led to aggressive resistance from the local people, more specifically, Africans and Asians.
Throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s, imperialism affected numerous societies across the world such as Africa, Japan, Great Britain, Korea, and Asia. Imperialism extends and influences a country’s power to gain territory and effects society with the inventions of education, transportation with roads, bridges, and canals, and communication with the telegraph. Great Britain has all the natural resources (raw materials), markets, and cheap labors that others lack such as Japan. Joseph Chamberlain believed colonies were valuable to Great Britain because they would increase the demand for goods, develop new markets, and would give an opportunity to extend influence and control over Africa (Doc 1).
Imperialism is a term used to define a country extending its power through military or diplomacy over another country. The term, in the nineteenth century, included various actions, such as economic exploitation and cultural imperialism. This could include anything involving two groups with one having some degree of control over the other for their own gain. The cause of this change in world relations in the nineteenth century cannot be traced back to one reason. Possible contributing factors comprise of nationalism, social darwinism, and the hope for economic power.
World War one had many devastating impact on the soldiers. There were four trends that led to the world war. Some of them were Nationalism, Militarism, Imperialism and the Alliance System. Some allies in the system were France, Britain and Russia. Nationalism was devotion to the interests and culture of one’s nation.

The early 20th century had a remarkable impact on human kind, creating ripples in the continuum of history that are still felt in modern times. The biggest and by far the most remarkable event was World War 1. It's main trigger being the assassination of Archduke Franz the war began tragic and tense. In an attempt to prevent Germany from becoming too powerful, other European joined powers for what was to be an exhausting and long battle of attrition. The war was essentially a huge chain of events, tracing back to the Franco-Prussian War and the actions of important people like Otto Von Bismarck.

Arguably international cooperation for international development, in its various forms, was designed as a means of ensuring that post-colonial states in their pursuit of national development would not succumb to the lure of communism and fall prey to the model presented by the USSR. Hence international development can be perceived not only as a model and strategy for reviving the economic growth but to also provide conditions of political stability for the neoliberal world order and a local benign or human face to imperialism. The first world war is an enigma, and a debatable topic when speaking on the cause. Many believe that the war was due to the ideology of militarism-and it may be a contributing factor, but may not be the leading one, in my opinion. Some think even imperialism was the main root of the war, which is undoubtedly a motive to enter the war; but most likely not the main factor.
Following the end of the Industrialist Era and the emergence of countless technological advancements, the United States entered the world stage. The United States was attempting to create an empire by expanding to land outside of its own borders in order to benefit the country’s economic interests. Many citizens, whose views were greatly influenced by their understandings of national identity, saw this overseas expansion in conflicting ways. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these groups differed in their opinions on the idea of expansion due to either their wanting to remain a democratic country built on the ideals of freedom and liberty to preserve their sense of national identity, or their wanting to expand for economic reasons and nationalism. Imperialism, which is the extension of a country’s power and influence through expansion, began as early as the 17th century, when Britain colonized the New World in order to expand economically and gain natural resources for manufacturing.
