Imagine a world where there was no technology and no cures for any fatal disease. Society would be disastrous and no one would have a stable, healthy life. Well, before the 1700’s, this was a reality for any human living in the world. Although there were some families who had it better than others, everyone lived a basic, life in conditions of filth, and disease . Around the 1700’s to the present, also known as the Modern Revolution, scientists have begun to discover new technology to better face the world in many ways. They, along with doctors, also have been experimenting and creating medicine to fight off or sustain certain diseases. A Big History table about discoveries and inventions shows and says that sometime around 1900-1949, the airplane was created (Inventions and Discoveries). Airplanes allow people to go to new places where they learn new ideas, languages, and religions. People going to different cultures allows them to bring back different foods, objects, and ideas to where they live. Allowing airplanes to travel and bring people to new places admits diffusion of ideas, religions and diversity, while also admitting syncretism. This gives the world more interconnection. Economics professor Ronald Lee created a table showing that during 1700, on average, a woman gave birth to 6.0 children. Currently in 2000, a woman on average is having 2.7 children (Lee). New technology like birth control reduces populations of countries that have it available. Fewer people makes the world economically healthier, hurting the earth less. Humans are living longer and healthier lives due to medical advancements over the years. Also, old and new technology are giving people the chance to become more interconnected with others around the world, while also reducing the amount of unpremeditated births. Society is changing because more and more governments are becoming democratic, allowing people to have freedom and acceptance. This also helps people get the opportunity to learn to be literate, permitting more chances to get jobs and live healthier in society. The Modern Revolution unmistakably improved the world, but, there was and is some things that impact the world negatively. Some medical advancements have resulted in bacteria with higher immunities, making some antibiotics no longer usable. And, some technological advances, like the atomic bomb and other weapons, have led and is leading to warfare and annihilation of societies. There are still non-democratic governments that give their societies poor treatment and no option to get an education. Even though cynical things keep happening in the present, the positives outweigh the negatives. With what the world is already improving on and how rapidly it is happening, soon enough, the world is going to be an exceptional, united society with few mistakes and little
