Based on evidence provided in the story, “August 2026: There Will Come Soft Rains”, it can be inferred that the apocalyptic city of Allendale, California was afflicted by a nuclear explosion, possibly caused by a bomb. Throughout the story, highly futuristic and technologically advanced machines are scattered throughout the house. Because the story was written in 1950, the author was envisioning what 2026 might look like. The author added multiple machines including a breakfast maker, a talking alarm clock, and animatronic rats that would clean the house.
The article “Blizzard!” by Jeanie Mebane and the poem from “The Blizzard Voice” by Ted Kooser both portray the blizzards of 1888. For example, the first sentence of the article “Blizzard!” says “no one on the prairie was prepared for the violent blizzard” that shows the reader that it's not just a couple of inches of snow, it shows that the blizzard will be windy and there will be a lot of snow and damage, also the fact that no one was expecting it makes it a whole lot worse. Another example is in paragraph 5 “Hunt and her students were blinded by the force of the blizzard and almost immediate felt their eyelashes crust over with ice.” Even though it doesn't specifically say that it's windy you just know because of the details. Texas, which is home of the Republican party now, has been viewed as the state that influenced the civil war. At least this is what Joel Silbey author of Storm over Texas argues. I would have to agree with him after reading this book. He gives examples to back up his work and I think that it makes sense. It has got me thinking if the United States should have brought Texas in at all because Joel has this question too.
‘Morning Rain’ by Hisaye Yamamoto and ‘Chang’ by Sigrid Nunez are short stories in the center of which remains a father – daughter relationship motif. It is not a very common topic in Asian American literature, and according to Wong and Santa Ana its representation in a literary texts is ‘a fairly recent phenomenon.’ Both Yamamoto and Nunez are creating the picture of the fathers through the eyes of their daughters. In these short stories, the children are discovering various parts of their dads’ identities by looking at their words and silences. The latter aspect of their behaviour becomes especially important, in understanding the true selves of the fathers, as they are an extremely quiet characters.

It started to get really dark outside, winds at 200 mph, and clouds started to rotate, that's when the tornados started to hit. Simpson creates images that make the audience view the important stereotypes of black women in a new and improved way. Lorna presents us with provocative and life-changing images because she sees black female identity as an overlooked culture. In her images, she expresses her thoughts on the representation that black woman has in our culture she also points out that because of our society black women aren 't able to embrace themselves as who they are because they are influenced by other cultures.
Tornados are one of the most weather phenomenons that we have. The Joplin tornado was one of the worst tornados that were recorded. This was also the deadliest tornado that has ever happened in the United States. These natural disasters were from Oklahoma all the way to North Carolina. There was over a 150 tornados that spawned from these natural disasters.

Both of these characters had a very deep connection to the land and felt strongly about its destruction.
