How I think of the will to power would be that it is a psychological perception. Really our ultimate drive is for power as realized in independence and control. This will is stronger than the will to survive, as sacrificial victims that are willing to die for a cause if we feel that associating ourselves with that cause gives us greater power in return, Although the will to power can reveal itself through violence and physical supremacy, Nietzsche is more interested in the sublimated will to power, where people turn their will to power inward and look for self-control rather than control over others.
