6. Chapter Six Wiesel and his father evacuate with the remaining inmates, marching while the SS directed insults towards them, even going to call them “flea-ridden dogs” (85). As they continue, Wiesel realizes that they were practically running “like machines,” no one lagging behind out of fear of being shot by the SS (85). After witnessing the death of a young boy who fell behind, he contemplates doing the same and declares that “the idea of dying… fascinated [him]” (86). The pain that he was in was so great, that he wished to die in order to end it all.
In this passage, my mother and I listened to a discussion Eliezer and Moishe the Beadle had together. Moishe the Beadle asks Eliezer why does he pray. Eliezer is dumbfounded by the question as he his used to praying regularly. He replies to Moishe he does not know why prays. Moishe later tells him that people should ask God questions even though people won’t understand His reply.

Chapter One: Introduction During the English Civil War, in the 1640s, the Earl of Clarendon came up with a novel wheeze: rather than allow those presumed to be parliamentarian enemies to claim the benefit of the rule of law, he would establish a prison on an island off the British shoreline. That way, he reasoned, they could be safely forgotten, buried along with their legal rights. When parliament later looked back on this dark chapter of British history, they passed the Habeas Corpus Act of 1679 to ensure that never again would an unpopular group of people be denied justice. Clarendon was impeached by the House of Commons and fled to France, where he died in exile.
In Night, there are several quotes residing within its covers which are of the utmost significance along with containing utter poignancy. These quotes are not mellifluous and influence the novel in their own idiosyncratic methods. There were moments when the main protagonist reaches a religious nadir, which is concomitant to the loss of hope in his future dreams. The second quote projects a differentiation in Eliezer's opinion of soup, contingent on his previous observations of executions. The last quote containing a deep meaning about the imperious dictator Hitler.

This passage in the book, Night by Elie Wiesel, explains the adversity and troubles of a death march, that they were forced to go on from Auschwitz to a still unknown location. In this death march Elie, his father, and thousands upon thousands of other Jews and “non-important” cultures of people take on the challenge of a 42 mile death march, in the harsh, cold, German winter; all that fell behind were killed. This is not the only death march that took place during the Holocaust, there were many many more that took the lives of thousands of Jews, for instance the Dachau and the Bataan death marches. Night is a book written by Elie Wiesel in which he tells his stories and experiences in the Nazi concentration camps at Auschwitz and Buchenwald during the Holocaust and Second World War. I would recommend Night because it’s written by someone who felt the horror of the Nazism in his own skin, so the book really shows the reality of the death camps and the atrocities that happened there. It is important to study and know about the Holocaust because it’s a terrible event which, in a historic perspective, occurred not long ago and its effects are still present in today’s society in such a negative way. Night by Elie Wiesel shows when humans are put in horrible situations, the acts of selfishness greatly increase. The book shows that when humans are in crisis like the Holocaust everyone is desperate to survive, so they will do anything they can to get their basic needs. The people forgot who they are as human, and how it made Elie and others act differently towards each other. Elie Wiesel, and everyone who he meets along the way want to survive this, at times they forget why they want to live. But no one wants to get defeated by the Germans.
To find a man who has not experienced suffering is impossible; to have man without hardship is equally unfeasible. Such trials are a part of life and assert that one is alive by shaping one’s character. In the autobiographical memoir Night by Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, this molding is depicted through Elie’s transformation concerning his identity, faith, and perspective. As a young boy, Elie and his fellow neighbors of Sighet, Romania were sent to Auschwitz, a macabre concentration camp with the sole motive of torturing and killing Jews like himself. There, Elie experiences unimaginable suffering, and upon liberation a year later, leaves as a transformed person.
As time progresses, he becomes confined to his bed and cannot move. Eliezer brings him soup and coffee, but at the same time he regrets it and thinks to himself how he should leave his father and conserve his strength. The other prisoners beat his father and steal his food. His father had dysentery so he is always thirsty, but it is dangerous to give it to him. Eliezer tries to get medical aid, but the doctors will not help him because he is an old man.
