The Nation was greatly changed by one President that will always be remembered: Richard Nixon. He was a respected President but made some bad decisions during his presidency. He is not the only President that made bad decisions. Every President did, but his decisions changed the way people view the next future ruler and the way people look at politics. Richard Nixon established connections with China and the Soviet Union, but he will always be known for his mistakes during the Vietnam War and the Watergate Scandal.
A. Plan of Investigation This investigation will assess the effectiveness of Nixon 's Vietnamization Policy of the Vietnam war to end U.S. involvement. The scope of my research will assess the effectiveness of Nixon’s Vietnamization Policy to end the U.S. involvement during the Vietnam war, as well as the involvement of the women in the military, Nixon’s Doctrine, and the new economic policy that caused the end of the U.S. involvement of the Vietnam war between 1945-1975. The methods to be used in this investigation will be primary and secondary sources historical textbook in search of Nixon, 1972. This investigation will evaluate the effectiveness of the new economic policy In Search of Nixon: A Psychohistorical Inquiry.
During the presidency of Nixon, he was able to come up with a domestic policy that seemed to have helped the United States and prove effective. Economically, he was very involved especially with trying to dettach the U.S. dollar from the gold currency to utilize the dollar to its maximum potential. He also removed excise taxes which basically put more money into people 's wallets. He also put a 10% tax on all imports into the U.S., this helped boost the economy.
President Nixon is one of the most famous Presidents in American history for being the first one to resign from office. While Nixon is famous for doing such an unthinkable act, he is also the one that gave one of the best and most well known speeches in political history, The Checkers Speech. The speech was given by (Senator at the time) President Nixon when he was running for Vice President on General Eisenhower’s Presidential ticket. A newspaper, the New York Post, had a front page with the headline "Secret Rich Men's Trust Fund Keeps Nixon in Style Far Beyond His Salary"; the article alleged that people were donating to a secret fund that Nixon had for his personal benefit in trade for political favors.
United States v. Nixon and Clinton v. Jones should have had the same outcome from the Supreme Court. Both, former President 's violated the law and wanted to use presidential privileges to dismiss their cases. In the United States v. Nixon, the Court had the right to order the President to relinquish the tapes to Congress to use as evidence for the trial against the seven members held accountable. Those accused were owed a duty by the Court to be given a fair and speedy trial. In the Clinton v. Jones case, the Court should have not granted the former President Clinton immunity because the general public needs to realize that not even the President can violate the law and get away with it.
On August 8th, 1974 at exactly 9:01 pm, Richard Nixon--former President-- gave a speech that would affect both United States history and the american people. Richard Nixon’s argument and claim lay within the textual aspects, in other words, his tone, attitude, and the strategic ways of presenting to his audience. In this historical speech, Richard Nixon broadcasted his character, past decisions, and future advice to the people of the United States in order to justify his resignation from the presidential office. The rhetorical stylistic tools were effective and instrumental in backing up the argument. Recognition of audience was important, because it will determine his attitude and tone, which was innocence.
It became evident that the position of strength was achieved through the commencement of negotiations to reduce arms. For example, in 1988, Reagan and Gorbachev implemented the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty) which banned all land-based missiles with ranges between 500-1000km from both nations. This was a significant step in the ending of the cold war as it reduced the nuclear arsenal which enabled a period of relative peace afterwards. Tensions between the United States and China existed because in the many years prior to Nixon’s presidency, no contact with China had been made. In order to calm these tensions, Nixon took to a bold step to visit China himself. During his trip, he discussed an alliance between the two nations in order to deal with the threat the two had in common, the Soviet Union (“The Richard M. Nixon Administrations”). Nixon’s visit to China helped to strengthen the United States foreign policy because it lessened the resentment China felt towards the United States therefore lessening the number of enemies the United States dealt with. When others spoke of Nixon they said that he, “... took bold and imaginative steps to improve U.S. relationships with Russia and China” (Drew 61).
Richard Nixon: Rise and Fall of a President, is about the life of the thirty-seventh President and his obstacles he overcame through life as well as his achievements. Richard Nixon was a bright young man at an early age, and this foreshadowed his bright future into politics. Nixon was also a studious student throughout his educational journey, and took his work very seriously. At a young age, Nixon saw the good in people and even though they may have done bad deeds, he forgave their crimes and knew they were better than their actions (Larsen 5). Throughout Nixon’s life we also see him challenging the ways of life, whether it be a new or old topic.
Many of Reagan’s firmness led the destruction and downfall of the evil empire. In 1991, Reagan aggressive policies toward the Soviet Union was a factor that ended the cold war. In the other hand his opposition said that only the good fortune of sane leadership in Moscow save us all from the nuclear apocalypse. Reagan diplomatic legacy was more that his admires or critics are likely to admit.
I will be writing about Richard Nixon was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974 when he became the only U.S. president to resign the office. I will be talking about his life before his presidency, during his presidency and life after his presidency. I will be talking about Nixon’s early political career as in life before he became the president. I will be talking about how Nixon was elected to be the U.S. Senate seat. Nixon was also chosen to be Vice President by Dwight Eisenhower.
