Richard Nixon: Rise and Fall of a President, is about the life of the thirty-seventh President and his obstacles he overcame through life as well as his achievements. Richard Nixon was a bright young man at an early age, and this foreshadowed his bright future into politics. Nixon was also a studious student throughout his educational journey, and took his work very seriously. At a young age, Nixon saw the good in people and even though they may have done bad deeds, he forgave their crimes and knew they were better than their actions (Larsen 5). Throughout Nixon’s life we also see him challenging the ways of life, whether it be a new or old topic. This helped Nixon in the election and many people learned to like the “new Nixon” (101). With his new image, Nixon won the election, and as he predicted, was back in the White House. Once Nixon took office, the major obstacle presented to him was what to do with the Vietnam war. This was a rocky road he had to try and overcome and many people were against some of his policies, but he did end up getting the “silent Americans” to speak up and voice their opinions who ended up being behind him. Nixon did not have a level head when it came to the war however, he did what he wanted even though it may have been against what everyone said. This angered the public and the words Nixon said to soothe them came across aggressive. Even though there were bad times in his presidency, there were also some good times. Neil Armstrong landed on the moon which was a victorious moment for America as a country, as well as Nixon’s visit to China that bonded two nations together.
