Civil Rights Essay Non- violent protest was effective during the civil rights movement and showed the want of peace and end of violence.This is because throughout the whole movement there were many protests but the ones that were the most effective were peaceful protests like the march on washington, protests at college campuses, and even sitting at a drugstore. A protest we learned in class was the march in Washington. This protest was just to show support to Black Americans who wanted more jobs and more opportunity in everyday life.This is to show how effective a peaceful protest can be and how it can bring change quicker than people think. Also, it shows how big of an event it can be in history with being peaceful.This protest brought the issues to the white house as it was at our nation's capital, which brought the idea to President Kennedy which later put the Civil Rights Act into Congress which later passed. …show more content…

These types of protests were where you would go into drug stores and sit in the white only section of the dining area. Black Americans who did this were beaten and treated very harshly for sitting in the white only section. This brought lots of attention to the Civil Rights movement by showing that even though Black Americans were being treated harshly and being beaten they never did anything back or said anything back, they just sat there. This showed people in America that they aren't trying to do anything wrong or be violent, they just want to be like everyone and be integrated into everyday life. This also connects with Dr. King, “The Only Road to Freedom” speech which states, “Only a refusal to hate or kill can put an end to the chain of violence in the world and lead us toward a community where men can live together without fear” (King, “Nonviolence”). This connects to citizens by showing how the non-violent approach must be in play so we don't cause more
