Nonprofit organizations can be rewarding, inspiring, and can offer the potential to give back to your community. Building this type of organization requires dedication to ensure a successful program. According to Robert DeMartinis (2005), “a nonprofit is a tax-exempt organization that serves the public interest. In general, the purpose of this type of organization must be charitable, educational, scientific, religious or literary”. I feel that the mission statement is brief and memorable and clearly states the purpose of the program. It also clearly indicates the primary functions or activities of the unit. One thing I feel that could be improved upon is the acknowledgement of stakeholders. Stakeholders may not just be the adult learners; it could possibly include the community if there are opportunities to work locally after receiving a certificate or diploma. According to Manchester Adult and Continuing Education (2016), it is their vision to “provide adult learners with the highest quality of adult education and literacy services. Adult education will demonstrate success by designing and planning programs that help learners to achieve their educational, employment, family and community goals.” I feel that their vision statement clearly defines what the organization does to meet their mission.
