Nonviolence: How three activists used it
What is really the influence of nonviolence? What is the consequence of violence? These are what many people ask when trying to fight for something. “Violence is not more efficient than non-violence”, said Andrew Young. What Andrew Young was referring to, we may not know. But his quote clearly fits three activists-- Mohandas “Mahatma” Gandhi, Martin Luther King.Jr, and Nelson Mandela. Of these three activists, three very global problems were solved. Without Nelson Mandela, the apartheid in South Africa would still be ongoing. Without Gandhi, India would still be under the control of Great Britain. Martin Luther King was born on January 15th, 1929. Martin Luther King’s name was originally Michael Luther King Jr, but he changed it to Martin Luther King Jr. He attended segregated schools in Georgia and graduated from high school at age of fifteen, receiving a B.A. degree. Absolutely, Martin Luther King Jr learned the practices of Gandhi when attending the Crozer Theological Seminary(a seminary is where you learn religion). Thereafter, he received a B.D. degree from the Crozer Theological Seminary in 1951. Surprisingly, Martin Luther King went to Boston University and got a degree from it(biography.com). Without a doubt, in 1953, Martin Luther King became part of the executive board of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Thereafter, in 1955, Martin Luther King got in charge of the bus boycott, inspired by Rosa Parks, which got segregated public transit to stop in 1957(mkgandhi.org). However, his house got bombed and Martin Luther King got arrested of the boycott. At this point, Martin Luther King decided to lead a protest in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963. Accidentally, the protest ended up being violent. Consequently, Martin Luther King Jr ended up being arrested.Positively, Martin Luther King explained that nonviolence makes a calamity ended up in which that the people must deal with.
