The Northwood Idea is compared to the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule. This idea is really not new or different from any teachings that we have seen in the past. This idea just merely speaks to individual responsibility, the emphasis on work and thrift, as well as the importance of business in today’s world. All three of these aspects in the Northwood Idea are not new. As we look back into history we can see that civilizations have grown emphasizing the importance of these aspects and have also plundered with the weakening of them. The Northwood Idea is meant to re-emphasize the importance of these aspects and to teach students that we do not have to repeat history. Every individual needs to be held accountable for his/her own actions. Each one of us has the opportunity to choose right from wrong. By choosing the wrong way, others will feel the pain of our actions. By choosing the right way, others do not reap the consequences of our actions. We need to be responsible in the choices that we make to ensure that it does not affect others in a negative way. The idea of moral law simply states that humans need each other in order to prosper. In order to be moral about human interaction with one another, we need to ensure that one party does not get affected in a negative way as opposed to the other party. An important point on moral law is that it takes precedence over all manmade laws and customs. The respect for property is also put into play. We must respect the rights of other individual’s property. We must acknowledge their work and voluntary cooperation that they exhausted to produce their property and make every means possible to not harm
