Importance of Theory When learning about theory in nursing there are several statements as to why theory is important. These include that theories build the foundational basis of nursing. This means that theories describe, they predict and explain phenomena in nursing. This phenomena in nursing is explained by relating different concepts into concepts that are logical and can be tested in such a way that nursing practice, along with research, is improved. Through research, theory is related to practice. These theories must be clear in their definitions and language to be expressed properly. (Karnick, 2013)
