What is the greatest invention or discovery ever made in the United States? Many people would choose the electric light and others might say the automobile, telephone, or airplane. “Yet most people would overlook a discovery that has saved hundreds of millions of lives: anesthesia(Brindell).” A Nurse Anesthetist is a Registered Nurse with advanced education in anesthesiology also known as a CRNA. “CRNA’s are responsible for administering, supervising, and monitoring anesthesia-related care for the patient undergoing surgical procedures(Exploring).” Also, CRNA’s take patient 's history, evaluate his/her anesthesia needs and forms a plan for the best possible management of the case. Being a Nurse Anesthetist can be challenging knowing the patient’s life is partially in their hands, but the job also offers certain education and responsibilities. To become a Nurse Anesthetist one has to have the certain education. Starting in High School students should be taking classes like Anatomy and Physiology, Biology, and Chemistry(What). With that being said, it helps if students know what they want to be before they get to college so they can get a head start. Nursing student Breyden Artis says “I wish I would have known that I wanted to be a CRNA when I was in high school so I could have taken classes like college chemistry(Artis).” When Breyden was asked what college is like he said, “College is extremely tough. You really have to be dedicated to being a nurse if you want to get through these courses. You have to devote a lot of time to homework and studying for exams(Artis).” When entering college a CRNA student has to obtain his/her Bachelor in Science and Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse which could take three to four years. Then, working in critical care is the next step to attain experience of two or more
