The MSN nursing program at the University of South Florida have taught me so much about diagnosing, treating, and managing comorbidities. My clinical experience with different receptors have reinforced my passion for caring for patients in outpatient settings. I would absolutely love this opportunity to provide primary care to your patient population to improve their overall health. I will focus on providing preventive care and other health care needs that will improve their quality of life. I will use an interdisciplinary approach by collaborating with my supervising MD and other resources as needed to provide comprehensive health care for each patient.
Congress formally established the Navy Nurse Corps in 1908, an organization that has proven to be an instrumental and integral part of the United States Navy. At the time of the Corps ' establishment, only twenty nurses were selected, and answering their nation 's call, they served with distinction. During WWII, through their valiant efforts, female nurses went on to be recognized as having the same authority as their male counterparts. From WW1 to the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, the navy nurse corps has put a lot of time and effort to quickly rise to the top of their profession. They provide care for military service members and their families but also for people in need around the globe.
I am requesting this scholarship to help pursue my dream to become a registered nurse to be able to help and lead others. I want to be able to help people get well. Also to give premature babies a voice to be heard, and to be healthy to survive. I have always wanted to be a nurse ever since my twin and I were born at twenty-nine weeks in critical condition. We beat the odds and became two healthy baby girls.
Shift change not only involves a changing of nursing staff but also includes a time when valuable communication between healthcare personnel occurs. A nursing process that is currently in place in my organization for patient handoff is the use of the Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation (SBAR) communication tool. This process has been the standard for communication across disciplines. Nurse report from shift to shift is done verbally at the nurse’s station or tape recorded in the employee lounge. A hand written report containing pertinent information about each patient is utilized for reporting.
“More highly educated nursing workforce is critical to meeting the nation’s nursing needs and delivering safe, effective patient care….. Without a more educated nursing workforce, the nation’s health will be further at risk (Tri-council for Nursing, 2010).” As the acuity of the patient increases daily, so is the need for increases of higher education for nurses. The factor of increasing complexity of patient health require higher education for the liability of safe practice, thus is an agreeable requirement for employers to place upon the employees. Acquiring a bachelor’s degree is only an improvement for everyone.
This is a personal statement for my application to the Family Nurse Practitioner Concentration in the Ball State School of Nursing. My personal statement provides details on my personal background and the unique impact that Family Nurse Practitioners have had on my life. I describe my undergraduate studies and how I firsthand gained interest as well as insight on the skills of a Family Nurse Practitioner.
