Adoption of New Technology Systems
Transition to new technology may fail due to lack of nurse involvement. It is important to ensure that a nurse representative is included in all training and meetings. As a Head Nurse in charge, the meeting will focus on how nurses should approach the Electronic Health Record system and the application of Rogers’ (2003) theory in a healthcare environment. The idea is to win the nurse's approval of the Electronic Record System.
How the Nurses Should Approach Electronic Health Record System
Nurses play a crucial role in the delivery of healthcare since they consider the patient’s problems in all stages of receiving care. Nurses ensure that patients receive appropriate care that begins with admission through …show more content…

Despite the benefits associated with the EHR system, some nurses oppose its introduction because they lack the required knowledge and skills to operate the system. Some nurses cite that the system may be time-consuming to use and may lead to earlier retirement, as well as, the reduction of jobs (Hsiao, Chang, & Chen, 2011). In this scenario, I would ensure all the nurses receive regular training to provide them with the required knowledge and skills to effectively operate the system. It would also be essential to assure the nurses that the intent of the system is not to encourage early retirement, but to enhance the delivery of healthcare services. I would also ensure that the nurses are well briefed on the objectives and goals of the Electronic Health Record system of enhancing quality in the delivery of services. I would also encourage the nurses to “weigh in” on the best framework that should be used in the implementation of Electronic Health Record …show more content…

The new system will minimize or eliminate time delays when retrieving file information usually experienced with the manual process. This will increase the efficiency and the effectiveness of maintaining health records while enhancing the productivity of the nursing staff (Kelley, Brandon, & Docherty, 2011).
Simplicity
It is likely that some nurses will resist the implementation of the Electronic Health Record system because they may find difficulty operating it due to a lack of computer literacy and basic knowledge to use the system. Therefore, a more simplified model of the system should be used to provide training to the nurses. A perfect example is the use of data entry application such as MS excel before introducing applications that are more complex.
Observed Results
In most cases, the data is usually obtained from institutions that have successfully introduced and implemented the system as well as the milestones that have been achieved regarding the improvement in keeping healthcare records. Such institutions may be large hospitals that receive many
