A family nurse practitioner could apply theory, information from research, and knowledge learned in class to formulate patient education strategies as well as to create patient education material. The nursing profession advocates for evidence-based practice. This requires the nurse to know, in order to provide proper care. Therefore, it is important to link research to nursing practice because the data collected through research makes it easier to make clinical decisions (Pipe, Wellik, Buchda, Hansen, & Martyn, 2005). An understanding of nursing theory would also prove important in handling nursing dilemmas by offering a systematic guide for handling nursing issues.
Nursing theories greatly influence nursing practices and education. Grand theory and Middle Range theory are the two main subcategories that they fall under. While Grand Theory and Middle Range Theory strive to promote nursing knowledge and patient care, their breadth, abstraction, and practical applicability are very different. Risjord (2019) states that grand theories are broad, abstract frameworks that explain important nursing practice occurrences. Although they cover various nursing care topics, they might not be applicable in some clinical contexts.
Each theory has a specific purpose and varies in how abstract, formal, and restrictive it is. There has been a movement from focus on grand theory to middle range theory over time. As the world continues to evolve and develop it is important for nursing theory to do the same. As grand theory is becoming smaller middle range theory is growing. (Smith & Parker, 2015).
It is created through analysis of research and construction of concepts and theories (Busso, Poles, & Monteiro da Cruz, 2014). Concept analysis serve a purpose within theory development as it represents continuation of knowledge in nursing profession. When theories and concepts are developed, it must be practiced in a clinical setting to validate research. The caring concept applies to Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring as it creates an environment for healing, bonding, and improving patient outcomes. The concept of caring depicts the attitude of the nurse and the inclination given to meet the needs of the patient from emotional or physical standpoints (Emerson, 2017).
1. CONCEPT 1-EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE IN NURSING This concept was deducted from module 2 with the topic “Concept of Evidence-based practice”. Evidenced-based nursing is a way of making decision and providing nursing care that is based on clinical issues and combine it with the most current, relevant research that is available on that issue. Evidence based nursing utilize the most up to date method of providing care, which have been proven via assessing high quality studies and statistically with significant research findings.
Nursing research is providing evidence used to support nursing practices, generate new knowledge, and promote evidenced-based nursing practice, ensure credibility of nursing profession, provide accountability for nursing practice and document effectiveness of nursing care. Theories vary in their level of abstraction and scope. Nursing theories are beneficial in helping us to understand, organize our thoughts and influence practice and research. The practice of nursing evolves daily from theories and philosophies that are proven by researchers, resulting in growth of the medical profession and advanced evidence based knowledge. Philosophies According to Alligood (2014b), philosophies are specific theories that focus on one or more metaparadigm concepts in a wide spectrum philosophical way (p. 43). For a person to understand philosophies it is required to understand the knowledge type, metaparadigms. Metaparadigm Metaparadigm is the vast perspective of a discipline and a way to describe a concern specifically to a profession or department (Alligood, 2014b, p.42).

Philosophy of Nursing Everyone’s values and beliefs about the profession of nursing are all different. The four concepts of nursing are interrelated and all mean something different to every person, too. Throughout this paper, I will be reflecting on my values and beliefs about nursing through the four concepts while comparing them to a nursing theorist with views that are most similar to my own.

With proper ventilation, clean air, lack of noise , proper lighting, and adequate elimination of waste. Simply stated, concept analysis incorporates a method or approach by which concepts that are of interest to a discipline are examined in order to clarify their characteristics or attributes” (Cronin, 2010). Within a home health care team there are Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, Home Health Aides, Medical Social Workers, Managed Care Coordinators, and Clinical Managers.
