First, ANA (2022) notes that these standards of practice act as a framework for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. Secondly, these standards of care guide healthcare practices and ensure that patients receive safe care for positive health outcomes. When nurses religiously follow these guidelines, they make better decisions like the patient needs assessment, care implementation, incorporation of patient preferences, and outcome evaluation (ANA, 2022). These standards of practice also act as reference points for nurses to evaluate their performances (Quinn et al., 2019) because adhering to them is essential to guarantee that nurses meet their professional responsibilities and
Recently the advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) became a very important profession due to the major changes in the healthcare system and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) goals that focus on providing patients with affordable but quality care, improving patient health outcomes, expanding care to the underserved areas, and lowering the costs. It became apparent that over the years nurses played an important role in healthcare system. According to the National Governors Association (2012) “The demand for primary care services in the United States is expected to increase over the next few years, particularly with the aging and growth of the population and the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)” (p. 1). In addition,
It is done by measuring the ongoing commitment of a registered nurse in his or her capacity to apply and integrate the skills, knowledge, and judgment with the values and attitudes required for the practice of ethical, safe, and effective measures to help patients (Eastman, 2010). At times measurement is done objectively based on the roles that they play. And how effective their results are. The evaluation is sensitive to situations and context. Competency in several cases can only be observed by an individual’s way of handling his or her duties.
My capstone project is about the need for nurses to learn about cultural diversity, cultural awareness and cultural sensitivity. This has been a fascinating project to explore and I am learning about so many cultural beliefs. When a patient's cultural practice is understood competent patient care is rendered and health care disparities are eliminated. For example, in some cultures many people believe that illness and evil can be prevented by following strict religious codes, morals and practices.
Introduction Advance practice Nursing origins date back more than a century. Advance practice nursing roles do not stand apart from nursing rather it builds on foundation and core values of nursing discipline (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy & O’Grady, 2014). Advance practice nurses (APN’s) are distinctive of other healthcare professionals such as doctors and physician assistants because of their holistic approach and its nursing framework at its core. Barbara J Safriet’s article ‘Health care dollars and regulatory sense: The role of advanced practice nursing’ highlights the effectives of APN’s in terms of both quality and cost effectiveness and challenges barriers to practice. This paper is the reaction to the article and will identify the two issues

In studying Registered Nursing one will find that they have to be compassionate and want to care for others. Registered Nurses assist physicians with suffering patients of any medical condition. Diversity is something I stand for. I am half Caucasian, half African-American. My parents adopted me at birth and although they had two Caucasian sons already, they accepted me as one of their own and two years later adopted another biracial baby girl. Diversity has been my whole life, not conforming to one race or the other, but accepting both and all others. Film, through my eyes, knows no color
What roles does the nurse play in ensuring the implementation of quality and safety initiatives? The nurse must ensure that all federal guidelines are followed in order to continue to receive funding for the Head Start program. Without these funds Head Start would be unable to continue to operate. Some of the guidelines for funding include quality and safety initiatives that must be followed.
With a nurse shortage, patients are not getting the best quality care they should be getting. Archive stated that hospital nurse staffing, is a matter of major concern because of the effects it can have on patient safety and the quality care patients deserve. Nursing-sensitive outcomes is an indicator of the quality care and can be defined as variable patient or family caregiver state, condition, or perception responsive to nursing intervention. Some unfortunate patient outcomes potentially sensitive to nursing care are shock, urinary tract infections (UTIs), pneumonia, longer hospital stays, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, failure to rescue, and 30-day mortality. Research has focused on negative rather than the positive patient outcomes for the simple reason that adverse outcomes are more likely to be documented in the medical record.

Strengths and Weaknesses My three major strengths are medication administration, communication with patients, and asking questions when I do not fully understand something. I feel like throughout my preceptorship these have grown stronger, and have helped me to be successful. My three major weaknesses that I have been focusing on throughout my residency are communicating with physicians, completing skills I am unfamiliar with, and improving my confidence. I would say that these have improved quite significantly, but I still have a ways to go.
