Purpose: The purpose of the poster is to convince people older than 50 to come to SOU to get to know more about the “Osher Lifelong Learning Institute” (OLLI). The poster gives information on the date and the activities that will be done during the event. Thus, the poster is supposed to inform and persuade people at the same time.
Audience: The Audience is people over 50 years that want to get further education through classes at SOU.
How do the graphics/color/font contribute to the piece?
The poster is very crowded. There is too much text on the poster, which is overwhelming at first. The text also constantly switches font size which makes it hard to read through quickly. The background is light blue and the majority of the text is white. This does not contribute to a good readability. Some of the text is written in black and a smaller font and is difficult to read. The big pictures of older people doing random activities do not contribute to the clarity of the poster either. At first, it is unclear who the audience is. Only at the very bottom it says that the event is for people older than 50. At the top of the poster is stated that people are supposed to join OLLI. It is unclear what OLLI is because it is only made clear in the small, hard to read black text.
Layout design: The layout and design do not contribute to piece very well. The random pictures in the middle of the poster draw all attention. Unfortunately, the pictures do not help to understand the purpose of the poster.
Language/Tone: The tone is very informal. The tone is supposed to create a nice, inviting sound, but it does not really fit the purpose. The poster is supposed to attract people that want to further educate themselves, not people that seek entertainment. Winning door prices, free refreshments and comedian make it sound like a weekend
