I admire how the students all showed interest and followed through with the course experiment. At first everyone was hesitant, not believing they could change their lives. The students later realized they could and were all willing
The "Challenge: Expand Our Circle" in this course was very enjoyable. Most of the movies that were played were movies I would have never thought about watching. A few of these movies touched my heart and made me quite emotional. Also, a few of the movies dealt with quite a bit of cultural tensions which made the movie interesting to watch. Before this class, I would have never paid much attention to the music in the movies and how much they connect with the scenes in the movies.
Definition: Ideology is ideology and values of the nature of the good life, the social, economic, moral values, and the role of government. Overall, Harms explained that the reason why he enjoys these different workshops is because they are a great way for teachers to expand their knowledge, and he still loves learning. Being able to make connections between the workshops and the content he covers in class is very fulfilling. The only regret he has from this trip is missing out on some gourmet lavender ice cream. With this year 's NEH trip out of the way Mr. Harms is looking forward to applying for a few other workshops such as the Gilder Lehrman Workshop and American History.org’s seminars. When a teacher can make a connection between the content their teaching and real life experiences, it makes the class much more interesting and
From this class, I have learned to work with other people, including students and adults, as well as leading a team, creating ideas, and problem
My view of the world changed a ton after taking this class. Before taking this class, I didn't know much about other countries, and what was happening around the world, but now I know what is happening worldwide. At the beginning of the school year, all of my friends were talking about how hard this class was supposed to be, and telling me I might should
The first year seminars interests me the most because I would be able to take a class on something I was never able to in high school, out of the current courses offered I am most interested in Racial
After reflecting on all that you have learned in this course, share what you believe is one current trend in the human services field in meeting the needs of individuals, families, and/or the community. This course has been a revelation for me. In the past eight weeks, I learned many things about running a nonprofit organization, and I am sure I will learn a lot more. There are so many different elements that goes into managing an organization like how to build capacity, funding/budgeting, assessment tools, the role of the board of directors, and past/current trends in the field.
On October 19, 2017, I attended the Thursday, 8:00 PM Fall Band Concert. The Neuqua Valley Music Department presented the Wind Symphony, the Wind Ensemble, and the Wind Orchestra. One of the most impactful elements of the performances was the ability of the composer and the performers to express a message to the audience through the music itself. This concept was most prominent in Irish Tune From County Derry by Percy Aldridge Grainger. The title page of the music had the inscription, “Lovingly and reverently dedicated to the memory of Edvard Grieg.”
Learning beyond the classroom is a great experience to be taught life lessons. The LBC activity I went to was the great Dr. Marc Lamont Hill. He is a proficient speaker that spoke in the Student Center auditorium. His speech was very informational and very inspirational. I will explain most of his topics he spoke about in the speech and relate it to my life and society.
Being Latino, this course has brought up some points that I have related to their values has changed the ways I think about things and believe that everyone deserves a chance and that our race shouldn’t define us. It is hard that we live in a conservative city that has isolated us in this bubble. Keep them striving and break this stereotype that everyone puts them into. This brought an eye opening of my awareness toward racism. The difficulty that they have to go overcome based on their race.
Which involved them asking for help after my presentation, so that really was the only success. So I guess I can say that having and planning out these events did not work out for me very well. What worked for me this semester was the in class discussions because I was able to interact with the opinions and I was able to share my opinions. These discussions also made me feel that I was apart of the class and not just an empty voice in the front of the class.
I specifically chose this event because we read The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba in class, and I was curious if Malawi or anything else relating to this book would be mentioned in the lecture. My curiosity was verified because Smithley's data varied over many countries, including Malawi, so I found it easier to relate what she was saying to what I have learned. Also, as a student, I was able to sit amongst a group of professors who were there to support one of their colleagues. It was a reminder to me of how lucky I am to be going to a college where the staff and students are interconnected and everyone supports each other. This is one of the most valuable components of a liberal arts
After carefully evaluating my abilities, desire to widen and reform my knowledge and aspiration to advance my career, I wish to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science at College. My goal is to work on the contemporary issues in the Information Technology industry and employ the knowledge to provide better solutions to the complex IT challenges. In the years to come, I envision myself as a lead architect designing systems which will get smarter and more customizable through interactions with data, devices and people. My whole life has been a multi-faceted learning curve which has prepared me to take the academic challenges of the graduate life.
