Thesis Statement:
While the National Association of Sports and Physical education recommends that schools should allow students one-hundred and fifty minutes a week of physical education only six states adhere to the recommendation (Brochman,2011) therefore schools across the nation need to strengthen their policies and require physical education due to the fact that the lack of physical education has greatly contributed to sedentary lifestyles and childhood obesity.

In this peer-reviewed article found on the Purdue library the authors explore the relationship between students and their physical education teachers as well as the class itself. The results varied between genders and races. The results were that both middle and high school students enjoyed the physical education classes and the teachers were mostly well liked (Ryan et al., 2003). The information provided in this study aids in supporting why physical education is important not only for the physical health of the students but for their mental well-being. The book discusses physical education programs as well as the negative implications of video games (Toraro, 2014). Each chapter is a separate study on different challenges that face physical education programs from daycare centers to middle schools. In one study, the author concludes that one aspect that needs to be addressed is the attitudes of students towards physical education as the results varied (Toraro, 2014). While physical education programs are needed, if students are going to refuse to participate it presents additional problems. This conclusion provides another aspect that can be analyzed in the persuasion
