Obesity Is Related To Cancers
Obesity will soon overtake tobacco as the leading preventable cause of cancer according to the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Too many lipids stored that are not consumed causes obesity. In 2012, 72,000 women and 28,000 men had cancer due to obesity. The power fat cells have to instruct parts of the body causes obesity, and the effects of obesity, namely the estrogen connection, metabolic disturbances, and inflammation, causes cancers.
The reason cancers are related to obesity is due to the fact that fat can send information and instructions to the body. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute explains fat is “a huge gland” (The Dana-Farber Institute, p.1). As a gland, fat can send hormones to control the body. The fat’s power to dictate the processes in the body increases the risk of cancers because the body cannot control fat. The Cancer

The Dana-Farber Institute and the Cancer Research UK explain the fat’s capability to command parts of the body. In addition, the Cancer Research UK specifically mentions the fat’s ability to “attract immune cells”. This increases the risk for cancer due to the fact that immune cells release chemicals causing inflammation. The fat’s ability to control the body causes obesity due to the fact that it can attract immune cells to cause inflammation, which leads to cancer.
Obesity leads to cancer in three ways: the estrogen connection, metabolic disturbances, and inflammation. Professor Martin Wiseman explains “…too much estrogen can encourage cells to keep dividing …uncontrolled cell division is …what cancer is” (The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, p.1). This describes that fat cells produce estrogen while the other parts of the body such as the ovaries also produce estrogen, and that this great deal of estrogen
