Supersize Me: It’s Time to Stop Blaming Fat People for their Size, Alison Motluk argues that we live in an “obesogenic society,” one that promotes weight gain and an increasingly unhealthy lifestyle. We do live in a society that makes it easy for people to become obese. For starters, the convenience and the relative ease it is to go to a fast food restaurant, and pick up breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Also the portion size that is offered at restaurants is enormous. We live in a society where most parents do not have the luxury to stay home and prepare healthy meals.
Most people have an opinion about overweight people and often jump to conclusion about the reasons a person may be overweight. My personal beliefs about obesity and weight issues may be a bit different than most people as I have suffered with weight issues for most of my adult life. I feel strongly that people and especially healthcare workers should never judge others for any reason and especially not because of someone’s appearance. I value the human body and what it is capable of and I was brought up to believe that we should take care of our bodies and live a healthy lifestyle. Not everyone that is overweight is unhealthy and there are many factors that lead to a person gaining weight.

I. We consume 8,500mg of salt per day, almost all from processed food. This is only one of the many reasons people have poor nutrition. Humans tend to not know the difference between processed and real foods causing the nutrition levels in our society to drop at an alarming rate. For years this problem has been a big factor to obesity and illness. Real food is single ingredient with no chemicals even if they’re ground and put into a jar.

Ask anyone and they will say that we have done a lot of damage to the Earth, but what have we done to ourselves. Today’s society is full of overweight or obese people and it’s killing us at a fast pace. Someone is considered overweight if they have a BMI (Body Mass Index) between 25 and 29 and obese if there BMI is 30 or higher (World Health Organization, n.d.). That being said at least 2.8 million people die each year because they are overweight or obese (World Health Organization, n.d.).

If you do the math, that’s about 1 in 9 people global that deal with the issue of hunger.
Many people don’t get the chance to survive and live to have a horrible death. Many people here in the U.S. don’t think that survival is important in other countries. I believe that in order to have a better world, everyone needs to survive and that means ending world hunger. Do you know when your next meal could be the last? Eight hundred fifteen million people don’t have the food they need because they have no job, natural disaster has struck them or they live in very poor spots of the world.
