Obesity is a very sensitive topic to talk about in today’s culture around the world. Way back in the day it used to be a good thing to be fat because it showed that you have money to eat but that has since changed. People can get very offended and be aggressive about the topic if it brought up in conversation. Today’s society, at least in the United States, obesity in ways can be censored or punished by the social media and other forms of media. Below are a few ways I see how obesity is censured in the culture I live in. The first way obesity is censored that comes to mind is in the magazine industry. Most magazines one sees on the shelfs have models that are skinny, small, toned, and pretty or good looking. One may wonder how these models always look fantastic and happy. Well, Photoshop plays a big role in the outcomes of the body style of the models as well as their perfect skin they tend to have. A good photo editor can make any person big or small look exactly as they wish, making them look to their minds content or making the models ‘perfect’. Why has been it been all men as the president over the last 200 or so years? It could be because a glass ceiling that is in the way of women or minorities to rise to the to;, the ultimate top being a president of a country. According to Meriam Webster Dictionary a glass ceiling is “an intangible barrier within a hierarchy that prevents women or minorities from obtaining upper-level positions”. A glass ceiling gets its name from being a concept that has no clear-cut reason why it is there. Where is this barrier? Why is it there? Can a woman break it the ultimate glass ceiling? In my lifetime, I can guarantee I will see a woman can break the biggest glass ceiling of them all and become the first female President of the United
