During the past two years, I was given the opportunity to spend some time observing in the classrooms at the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown Preschool, a Christian-based school, in the Gibsonia, PA area, the Westminster College Preschool Lab, and the Head Start program at New Castle, PA. Observing in the different classrooms displayed different ways to setup and design one classroom from another. The church preschool was different from the Head Start program, mostly due by the budget and location of each facility. Many of the church preschool classroom materials were provided by donations to the preschool. The classrooms at all three locations, had some physical similarities with each other including: many windows, child-sized tables, chairs, cubbies, and play kitchens that were child friendly, with different areas for children to play in during free time.
Previously I thought a teacher only needed to know if the child was developing correctly and all student where treated equally. Although there are still some of this in play I have now taken a different approach. One of the interesting issue I learnt from this week was Development Appropriate Practice. Using knowledge about a child development, abilities, development of key milestones to create a plan that is suitable for the age and stage of their development. Understanding what is culturally and socially acceptable as well as individual appropriateness are just as important.
The Early Years Foundation Stage contains all the principles to help achieve positive outcomes for children and breaks them down into smaller units. The four main areas include; » Unique child – Every child is a unique child, who is learning and can be resilient, confident, self-assures and capable. » Positive relationships – Children learn to be strong and manage feelings through positive relationships. » Enabling environment – Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, which their experiences respond to the own individual needs and there is a strong partnership between the practitioners and the child’s parents/carers. » Learning and development – Children embrace learning and development in different rates and ways.
By during this it helps me to see what works in the lesson or not. After every lesson, I start to analyze the data making sure that students are mastering the standard. Sometimes the data shows me that I have to reteach a portion of the lessons due since 80% of the class did not understand that particular concept.

During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. Introduction This assignment is in two parts. The first part of this assignment would attempt to use the theories of human development to explain the child behaviour observed during child observation at the preschool while the second part of this assignment would propose an intervention on a scenario at my practice placement. I would demonstrate my critical understanding of the theories and evaluate their relevance for evidence-informed and value-based practice. I would conclude by articulating my critical appreciation of the use of theory to inform professional social work practice based on my experience from the child observation and my placement experience.
Development is the process that people goes through and it also creates growth progress, positive charge and many more. Also, development is when you gained skills, have knowledge, and understanding. Meanwhile, developmental in infancy occurs at birth and lots of things happen during the months and years. However, many babies can reach a certain milestones at a similar and different age, but children development is not exactly the same. In addition each child develops at his or her own pace in the development stages in life.
Question 1.1 Holistic development looks at a child as a whole person and examine the physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially, morally, culturally and spiritually changes throughout the life changes of the child. It’s the relationship between all elements and the fluctuation of these. The result being a multi-disciplinary approach to assist a child. Holistic education should prepare a child to meet the challenges of life and assist with learning.
Many theorists discuss ways in which children are developing. Physically, emotionally, socially and language progressions. Within the early childhood sector, the study of children's development is vividly important as teachers learn to observe the children's individual learning patterns and habits. The practical knowledge of how to develop a child further will assist in utilising the children's skills and holistic development to their fullest potential, however, knowing how to practically aid children in the separate developmental domains is also key as individual kids need more help in some areas than others.
So, whenever I found an opportunity or whenever a teacher researcher, a colleague, a teacher trainer or a novice teacher requested to observe my lesson, without hesitation, I accepted to be observed throughout my lessons.
