During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. The purpose of this interview was to observe the child’s physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. I observed her behavior and gave her several tests to show how well she has progressed.
During the course of this unit, I have been able to gain new knowledge that is focused on children who have special learning needs that I may teach in my classroom in future. The key learning outcomes for me over the duration of this course was that I learnt that the term “special needs” does not always refer to those children with disabilities but that all learners have needs in the classroom during learning .It is also important that I use positive behaviour approaches when communicating with my students as well as using positive language when conversing to colleagues or parents, etc., where a child is concerned. There are many information-gathering methods out there, however, two of these methods stuck out that I had to do more research on. Naturalistic observation and Case study has shown the most interesting and achievable methods that I would personally do in the classroom. The first method is naturalistic observation. Introduction: I live in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan and I have many places where I could do an observation, places like schools, daycares, restaurants, coffee shops, mall etc. I choose to do my observation at a local licensed daycare on Friday, February 9th.
