Productive Communication

Introduction:

Why did you choose the area of development you did?
Since the child is dependent on the adult from the birth, communication is a vital component of a child 's development. Variants of communication, the excess or lack of communication and its components is something that is especially interesting to me in the process of observing the child 's behavior.
Tell why this area of child development is important to you and why you are interested in the area you choose to observe?

The usual, everyday productive communication behavior of the child during his participation in activities and interaction with the teacher and classmates.

What did you see the child doing?
What time did you see the child doing the behavior?
I ended up on the final part of art activity and found Denis (not child’s real name) interested in the process of comparing the results of drawing and asking his friend why the wings of his bird did not fit into the page. He asked: Is this the way it should be? Why are they so small? And what is this bird? and so on….

Denis, noticed that while he was going to examine the drawings of others, cleaned up with himself and helped others to clean up, several of his friends were already building something from the blocks. The guys did not object to the fact that Denis joined their game, and they began to tell what they were trying to do.

Denis continued to play with building blocks and communicate with other kids who involve in the play

Asking questions, or showing his drawing, he was animated and talkative, and use a mix of English and Russian languages during communication. It was interesting to me to watch how children unconsciously switch from one language to another, and that this does not interfere with their interaction at all. For example, Denis mixed the names of colors by asking questions and also used the word bird in both English and Russian. Watching the children, I remembered the explanations given in Chapter 8 Infant and Toddler Language and Literacy. According to Jeffrey Trawick-Smith: ”Diversity in language environments explains the rich variation in communication style and competence during the early years. In some instances, toddlers combine the words of two languages into a single utterance.Whether children will use one language more than another, use some words of both languages to express ideas, or engage in mixed speech will be determined by the nature of the bilingual environment in which they grow up ( Deuchar & Quay, 1999; Quay, 2004).
