Socks are just a normal piece of cloth that are put on feet. Right? “In Ode to my Socks” by Pablo Neruda, the speaker sees his socks as more than just “socks.” Pablo Neruda uses simile, alliteration, and imaginative word choice to keep the reader interested.
Word choice helps make a reader enjoy the writing, Pablo Neruda does exactly that. He uses words like “tender chicken” (67), or “luminous”(44), or “sacred documents”(55). Using words like this makes poems more enjoyable.
Pablo Neruda uses simile as an eye opening piece. When comparing two unlike things you create a simile. A simile makes a reader think about those two items that are totally different, yet the writer is able to put them together. “Two socks soft/ as rabbits”
