Daughter of Titan god Atlas, welcomed Odysseus after he was drifted for nine days at sea because he had lost his ship. Calypso had fallen head over heels for Odysseus and was willing to do anything to please him and in exchange, be able to make him her immortal husband. Odysseus yearned to go back to his old life in Ithaca and did his best to communicate this with Penelope but she would not let him go. Eventually, after seven years, Penelope received orders from Hermes that Zeus wanted her to let Odysseus go and she complied. Odysseus made the right choice to leave and continue his dangerous journey and there are valid reasons why. One of the reasons Odysseus was right to leave Calypso is the fact that he was already married and has a son when he arrives on the island. Odysseus was married to Penelope, daughter of Icarius of Sparta, daughter of nymph Periboea, and mother of his son. Penelope was so patient waiting for her spouse to return she rejected the suitors request for her hand in marriage.
