Lisa portrays the role of the Mentor and Threshold Guardian Archetype in “The Hate You Give” because as a mother, she tries her best for her children to have ordinary lives when violence compromises her children’s safety and innocence. She constantly reminds Starr, Sekani and Seven that they are still children and have emotional needs that philosophy cannot always address, especially to Starr since she struggles the most with her identity when she’s around her peers at school compared to being with her family. As the head of the house, Lisa is very devoted to always protecting her family.
