Okanagan Farm Observation

Unfortunately, in this day and age, humans often neglect the importance of protecting the habitat of species. This farm has the opportunity to promote and educate the public on the unique species that it is home to, as well as other species in the Okanagan region. I propose that moving forward the farm should focus on the wonderful educational opportunities their establishment provides and cultivate a new generation of eco-aware students. The farm currently has a board explaining the gestation period of wallabies, and the staff proved to be knowledgeable and friendly, should you ask them a question, but it has the ability to grow substantially. I envision a future where the farm hands out pamphlets on arrival, educating visitors on the species it holds, and well as a Red Listed species in the Okanagan. Schools could visit the farm to discus habitat and habitat protection systems, and bring awareness to the Okanagan regions distinctive characteristics. Particularly on my second visit, when I took the time to simply sit and observe my surroundings, I found a sense of calmness in the craziness of animals, kids and adults that was swirling around me. Everyone besides a few playing wallabies followed the rule of no running and instead people of all age stood, or slowly approach the animals, with eyes full of excitement and curiosity. After viewing the reactions of all in the premises, I would conclude that the Kangaroo Creek Farm is a valued and important part of many residents and tourists of Kelowna, Lake Country and all surrounding neighbourhoods.
