Summer Days in West Lake Okoboji It’s seven A.M. and I’m dead tired from staying out by the fire too late the night before. I know all I need to do is convince my stubborn self to jump in the clear icy cold lake water, and I’ll awake in a flash. One of my favorite parts of the day is about to begin, water skiing and wakeboarding. I take off my cozy sweatshirt that reeks of bonfire smoke, and make my way to the back of the boat. Finally, I get the nerve to jump in as my sister Macy ends her ten second countdown. The loud splash in the lake is accompanied by my usual screech. My mom quickly tosses me my wakeboard and rope, then comes the final countdown, “1...2...3,” I’m up! The lake water looks like glass as I glide in and out of the wake, and I can’t help but smile because I can tell it’s going to be a beautiful day. Usually we will start our day off in the boat. My mom grew up on a lake and taught my brother, Matt, my sister, Makenzie, and I how to ski. We are a very competitive family so we try to outdo each other in how long we can go and in who has the biggest walls. Nobody will admit it, but I believe I am undoubtedly the best in the family. Although Makenzie and Matt say that it’s obvious they are the best. After our early excursion on the boat we occasionally make a trip to O'farrell sisters, an old breakfast diner located on the lake.
