Essay One: The story of the creation of mankind is an extremely important story to our history, it begins the basis of what the majority of the world still believes today as how we came to be as a race. Genesis is the most well-known chapter in the bible for the simple reason that it explains where we came from, however, the interpretations of this story vary between the ancient interpreters and the modern interpreters. Ancient interpreters look into the cryptic messages that they believed were God’s way of telling the people how to live their lives. Modern interpreters look more into the historical relevance of these passages and how they are still relevant today. The story of Abraham begins with God telling him that he must leave his home nation and if he does that God would make him a great nation and bless him and make his name great. Since the rise of the modern biblical interpreters, scholars have questioned the historical accuracy of the story of Abraham. Abraham is also credited as the first monotheist by ancient biblical interpreters, they believe that he was the first to discover that there is only one God and that worshipping multiple Gods was useless. However, in the early twentieth century archaeologists discovered that there were certain elements of Genesis that they could confirm, such as, that Abraham’s hometown of Ur was actually a real city that was at the mouth of the Euphrates. There were many findings that connected back to the family of Abraham and the city of Ur, however, there are elements to the story of Abraham that are believed to have come from a period of time long after Abraham.
