Race is a socially constructed divider based on physical differences such as skin tones, but are not limited to facial features, body features, accents, etc. There are not separate genes, traits, or characteristics that define any single group from another group. Police once walked up to Korematsu to ask if he had seen a “short Asian man”, adding stereotypes to the classification, when the police were looking for Korematsu. Korematsu had surgery performed so his eyelids would have less folds to look more, white (I would say American, but Korematsu is American and that changed nothing). Hence, this touchy subject of race is what makes it so much harder to discuss.
Most of the time people use race as a big role when viewing other people, either if were walking down the street or walking into the store. Individuals have a specific view of people from other races and even their own. For example, a black businesswoman might stereotype another woman from her own race because she may not have the same attire as her or grew up in a different area. A white businesswoman might look down on another white woman who makes less money than her like she is a no one, which is not true as all humans are equal and money does not make anybody greater.

A stereotype is not necessarily a true statement or it may not describe every person in a race but due to popular belief it has become this way. Some people tend to believe that stereotypes are correct and they judge races according to them. When a person is asked to describe someone from a specific race, they will most likely state multiple stereotypes that for most are not even true. This becomes the reason for most racial profiling and increases the barrier between people.
In Sociology, stereotypes are described as "pictures in our heads" that we do not acquire through personal experience. I believe that stereotypes are a mental tool that enforces racial segregation and self-hate. As well justification for dehumanizing minorities. This makes the stereotypes more believable as years go by, even if these stereotypes are partly true it does not mean that every single one of them is the exact same. A personal example of this is when my grandmother was talked to like a child because by an employee at a restaurant even though she speaks English adequately. This was humiliating to her because she could speak English but just by her appearance, they assumed that she did not understand the English language. We don’t realize that we stereotype others based on their physical appearances and we act very racial towards others, it just comes natural. I believe that humans should take the time to reevaluate their actions when it comes to racial thoughts and prejudice attitudes. Everybody is different. Not everyone has the same beliefs and morals therefore everyone will behave differently. Stereotypes often lead to negative actions, but we have no control.
All Asians are good at math, all blondes are dumb, all Muslims are terrorists - these are all common stereotypes. Everyone is different and we all think differently this is why some people may take stereotypes differently. Some people may take them as joke and others may look at it in a disrespectful way. I've come to the realization that stereotypes play this role in society because people don't take the time to look beyond the external aspects of an individual. People don't take the time to understand and explore what make someone different from the next and at the same time makes them similar. The lack of education about a person or thing is what fuels the judgement against people. It is the way in which people put others down to bust how they feel about themselves. They don't take the time to think further to understand what a person has to offer about themselves or something that was not known before.
One thing everyone needs to know is all stereotypes are all based on truths. Truths, pertaining to stereotypes, are how categorized groups used to act in a certain way in the past or how some still act that certain way currently. Truths are basically the honest look of how the group behaves. Currently people get misconceptions and stereotypes confused. Yet misconceptions are formed from stereotypes and are incorrect based on truths.
