From tending Jamie’s wounds, both of them become close friends. Claire finds out that Jamie has a personal vendetta against Jack Randall and that his name is actually, Jamie Fraser.
Colum and his brother Dougal, (Claire finds out that they’re Jamie’s uncles) in order to protect Claire from the English, decide to make her Scottish by marrying her into the family. This gives Claire protection from the Randall and stops animosity from the castle’s residents from Claire being a Sassenach or “outlander”.

He replied that he did and that he wouldn’t mind because more marriages were more unfortunate with the couples not even knowing each other. Claire conflicted with her marriage to Frank tries to deter Jamie by asking if he would still want to marry her even though she wasn’t a virgin.
