An Analysis of Excerpt of "Fireside Chats" by President Franklin D. Roosevelt In this excerpt from his speech, President Roosevelt is very organized and persuasive with his tone, appeal and his word choice. President Roosevelt's tone was one of belief in the recovery of the American people and of the nation and he strongly made his appeal to the emotions of the people saying that "fear is vanishing" and speaking of the faith of the people as well as stating that God was watching over America. His word choice was good in relaying his wish to help America recover from the Great Depression, making it seem like a personal desire rather than just a government project as he made it personal using the personal pronoun "our" multiple times in speaking
Being a member of a club comes with great responsibilities and the opportunity to gain attributes to one’s character. An example of such is called interact club. I joined this club as a student of Neshaminy High School. I wanted to volunteer in my community and to help people. Neshaminy Interact Club is a service learning organization.
Mindy Kaling wrote the chapter “Is Every Hanging Out Without Me? (Or, How I Made My First Real Friend)” to give a significant message about not being afraid of what others think and how they perceive others near you. To help spread her advice Kaling tells a narrative about her friendships in middle school and how she learned this lesson the hard way. She does this by introducing her friend Marvis, but the narrator and Marvis are only friends on the weekend; but on the weekdays she possess friends that are much different than Marvis. Through this entire chapter, Kaling says that “more and more times, I found that I didn’t want to do what JLMP (their initial letter in their first name) wanted to do” (4), which lays out that the group of friends
Social location is important in knowledge production. One’s perspective is influenced by the location of his or her identity. Maps are useful for one to find one’s way and for navigation, but also to show others how to get somewhere. When one maps one’s experiences, an extra dimension is added to an ‘objectively’ created map. It becomes three dimensional, rather than flat.
Sense of presence, according to Fontaine’s Teams in Teleland, is described as “a state in which we are psychologically present in the immediate task situation and are broadly aware of a range of ecological characteristics of it (Fontaine, 2002, p. 127).” However, Fontaine mentions that in his work he uses “sense of presence” to explain the “state of being psychologically present in the situation in which one is physically present (Fontaine, 2002, p. 127).” When we engage in familiar tasks we might not be psychologically there 100 percent. This is due to the idea that since the task may be “routine and predictable we can get by on being less present (Fontaine, 2002, p. 127).” However, when we venture into unfamiliar territory, the unpredictable
In “The Internet Isn’t Making Us Dumber-- It’s Making Us More ‘Meta-Ignorant’”(New York Times, July 27, 2016), William Poundstone expresses his take on how the internet is changing societies definition of common knowledge. Poundstone starts by giving an example of how a bank robber was mislead into believing lemon juice would turn him invisible to any camera. Obviously, this is not the case and Poundstone describes this as the Dunning- Kruger effect, when people are not aware of the short extent of their knowledge. The people fallen victim must not be aware of how little they know and, according to a study by Davis Dunning and Justin Kruger, they believe they know more than up to two-thirds of other people.
Adding "Presence" to Your Argument: Motivating someone to move beyond intellectual agreement with your position to action often needs more attention to the pathos compared to other kinds of arguments. In most cases, convincing people to act means that an argument must have "presence" as well as intellectual force. An argument can have a presence when it engages the readers imaginatively and emotionally as well as intellectually. Presence can be achieved through effective use of details, provocative statistics, illustrative narratives, and compelling examples that show the reader the seriousness of the problem you are addressing or the consequences of not acting on your proposal. It can also be achieved by using figurative language like metaphor
Prison Service Order (PSO hereinafter) 4410 notes that the refusal of a social visit “should be proportionate, taking account of Convention rights particularly art.8.” Similarly, the Prison Service Index (PSI hereinafter) 20/2006 makes clear that any decision to allow only closed visits must be proportionate. Paragraph 3.6 of the PSI 20/2006 deals with the circumstances in which a visit should be stopped, and notes that stopping a visit is “a very serious measure” and should “not normally be necessary” except in certain circumstances. The extent to the protection of the rights of visitation is notable in PSO 3610 which deals with “Measures to Deal with Visitors and Prisoners who Smuggle Drugs through Visits.”
Evaluate/Assess your own enactment of Internet friendship, or that of someone you know (child, friend). Do you primarily use the Internet to collect new friends, maintain your friendships, or both? Apply ethical considerations regarding the intersection of the Internet and friendship. To what extent is it possible to cultivate true intimacy online in a way that one might experience in person? How does our consumeristic society impact our approach to online friendships?
Rough Draft: College should be thrown off a ledge (help i need new title) Deciding whether college is the best path to take can be difficult for many high school students, as it is the deciding factor in determining one’s success in the future. Oftentimes, it is not the students’ choice to make. Rather, it is from the pressures of society that impels them to go to college, whether they are by parents, teachers and guidance counselors, the media, or past alumni who had already gone to college. Students are conditioned to maintain the belief that going to college is the “right thing to do”, that a higher form of education leads to better chances of success in life.
Visitor Q (Takashi Miike, 2001) “Visitor Q” is a grotesque study of the human psyche, by a filmmaker who has transformed the rape of our aesthetics into his means of expression. The script revolves around the Yamazakis, a family of four, all of who are quite maladjusted individuals. Kiyoshi, the father, is a former reporter trying to shoot a documentary on violence and sex among youths. Therefore, he spends his time recording Takuya, his son, on camera, while his classmates bully him; he also occasionally has sex with his prostitute-daughter, Miki.
Proximity: I was observing two people who were sitting in a booth across from each other in a restaurant within the distance of 1.5 feet. They were having a direct conversation and were within a hand's reach. The gentleman was leaning towards the lady, showing interest in what she is saying. I assume by the distance between each other and the position that they are facing, these two people are very close friends. They have a very firm and strong relationship based on letting each other into their personal space zone by sharing the booth.

Whether its posting information about oneself online or looking up someone's name to see what is online about them, there is no doubt that many people have an online presence. Yet many times individuals do not always think about what is really out there about themselves. Some things good, others bad, but the fact is, when something is out there on the web there is no doubt somebody has seen it. It is so important to obtain an online profile and be present in today's web life for many crucial reasons. Although many believe that having an online presence can result in a negative backlash personally and professionally, it is a great way to stay involved and develop a credible and safe online reputation.
Technology affects almost every aspect in our life. Nowadays people use computers and smart phones in their personal social activities, business, education, medical care, politics and, most of all, in entertainment. Needless to say that technology makes our life easier and is the major reason that helps people develop, especially technically, but it certainly affects our life negatively from a social perspective leading people to feel lonely. You don’t have to be physically alone to feel lonely.
