1 April 2016 Operation Overlord: Omaha Beach Operation Overlord was the code name for the Battle of Normandy that the Allied forces launched on 6 June 1944. General Eisenhower 's goal was to attack the German occupied western front by attacking from the North of France. Eisenhower planned to go through taking cities on the way to help liberate France. The attack was set for Normandy beach at 6:30 a.m. There were five beaches sectioned off of the coastline of Normandy, and Omaha Beach struggled the most.
