Unbroken is a biography by Laura Hillenbrand about Louie Zamperini’s entire life. Louie Zamperini is a son of Italian Immigrants that moved to Torrance, California. He starts out as a problem child that would steal, drink and smoke, but he eventually straightens out through sports and became an Olympian later in life. After he went to the Olympics, he gets drafted into World War 2.
Unbroken is a book written by Laura Hillenbrand. The book is about Louie Zamperini. Throughout his childhood, he was always a troublemaker. He stole, he lied, and wreaked havoc in his town. In highschool he decides to do track and dedicates all his time to it.
The Horrors of the Naoetsu POW Camp Throughout Laura Hillenbrand’s Book Unbroken: An Olympian’s Journey from Airman to Castaway to Captive, Louie is sent to numerous POW camps but eventually ends up at the Naoetsu POW Camp, where he is finally liberated. This camp, the last that Louie has to endure, does not come without struggles and beatings that can put anyone over the edge. Although all parts of the Naoetsu POW camp were horrible, the worst parts were the dreadful living conditions, a wretched prison guard, and extensive torture sessions that caused men to lose all hope of survival. Living conditions at the Naoetsu POW Camp were deplorable and unsanitary, causing Louie’s mental health to decline and his life to worsen. On page 201 of Unbroken,
Open Range began in the state of Montana in 1882. The plot of this particular movie was about a group of cattlemen who were led by “Boss” Spearmen. Charley, a hired hand, had been riding with Boss for ten years. He struggled with his past of being a soldier during the Civil War and felt guilty about the numerous men he had killed. Button, a small-framed, sixteen-year-old boy did not speak a word of English when he was hired by Boss.

Oodgeroo Noonuccal, commonly known Kath Walker, is an Indigenous writer who inscribes poems to carry aspects of the life of Indigenous people in Australia. The poem “Then and Now” touches the life of the Aboriginal people, mainly the problems they experienced, especially in the areas of culture, tradition and land, but she also reflects on what remains for them as well. This poem clearly explains that “poetry is a matter of life, not just a matter of language” To begin with, there are many events that Oodgeroo expresses in her poem to refer that “poetry is a matter of life, not just a matter of language”. The most significant problems experienced by the Aboriginal people that Oodgeroo mentions in the poem was the ruining of their culture, ritual and tradition because of the advent of the Europeans.
The second half of “The Life of Olaudah Equiano” written by himself focuses on his life as a freeman. Equiano, a tradesman traveling the world encountered new adventures, which led to spiritual transformations. Equiano endures a cultural mainstream through multiple viewpoints. He acknowledges similarities and differences between cultures, which transforms his curiosity for adventure toward the practice of converting new cultures to his beliefs as a Christian. What would one expect the identity of a man that bought his freedom out a slavery, only to take part in the practicing of slavery himself?

During the course of this semester, I feel that I have grown substantially as a writer. I think that I could improve even more with practice as well as using a few resources. This class has helped me drastically by improving my writing structure but I think it could have been even better if I had spent my time more efficiently. Overall this class has been very beneficial to me and I think it will really help me in the future. When I started this class I took a completely different approach to writing a paper.
