Americans feel very strongly about abortion, making it a controversial issue. Those who support abortion believe that it is the woman’s choice to make these decisions about her baby/body. Some supporters will claim trauma will affect the woman's decision to have an abortion. Furthermore, advocates of abortion think the fetus is part of the mother’s body so it shouldn’t be considered a human yet/have human rights. For instance, according to Should Abortion be Illegal, a fetus is not a person until it is able to survive out of the womb or after birth. Fetuses are not independent yet (Should,2016). On the other hand, those who oppose abortion think that abortion is murder. These critics also argue that abortions can cause future medical problems for the mother. Lastly, opponents believe there are alternatives to abortion. In closing, according to History and Debate of Abortion, “Abortion is a very controversial topic because it’s frequently of occurrence, legal, cultural and religious status varies extensively in different regions around the world” (History, 2016).

They say since the fetus isn’t considered a human yet, it shouldn’t have human rights. According to Misconceptions about Abortion, “There is no scientific consensus as to when human life begins. It is a matter of philosophical opinion or religious belief” (Misconceptions, 2016). This shows that the fetus is technically not a human and the abortion could technically not be murder. As Why Abortion is Not Murder points out, “to be "murder" an action must involve "killing." Something that was alive before the act must be dead as a result of the act” (Why, 2000) An embryo is not alive during an abortion. Therefore, abortion is technically not
