Women for the longest time have been oppressed, unfortunately this oppression has not been defeated completely. The movie Salt of the Earth was a good example to me of women also being capable of doing the things that man would not believe they would be capable of doing. Really, the theme that stood out to me the most is the power of the unity of women. The women in this movie fought back for a change.
Women are brave, women are loving, and women deserve equality. I compared what I learned from Professor Ramirez to this movie and many other instances in this world. It was surprising to see the woman fight back with the white police officer. She took her shoe off and knocked the gun off of the man.
I noticed how powerful she felt after doing that, so powerful that her husband did not approve of it. This was new to the woman as it has become new for women who are fighting back against such oppression of man. I can imagine how new all of this feels to the women fighting back, I can only imagine the feeling which drives them to continue to fight for justice. The man was baffled in the movie, and men are just as uncomfortable to see women fight back today.
As we have been learning in class, such power that women have been fighting with has made man uncomfortable that they often try to shut down these movements. They disagree and even find excuses of why things should not change. I was able to apply the resistance of the white police officers to the same resistance we see today. There has been such perseverance for these women that it is just unbelievable to me, and it is only through taking this course that I am able to evaluate that. It is only through such teaching and learning that we are able to be more aware of what is going on around us. This is why throughout this course I have become more appreciative for learning what needs to be changed, for learning what needs to be
