Ever since I have known about all my options for a job; I have wanted to succeed in the Health Science field. In addition to pursuing Health, I hoped to attend UPenn and afterward a distinguished medical school, but the obstacles are numerous; time, money, grades, and commitment. None of these obstacles can be achieved in a day or a week, so I have done everything in my power to do my best in all but one obstacle I cannot change is money. College tuition only grows every year and my family is not exactly counting dollar bills; I need to do everything I can, so I may to lessen the cost of college and be and be as best prepared as I can be for the rigors of college.
Going into my senior year of high school, I was forced to make some fairly large decisions about my future, as were most teens my age. Before making the decision to attend California University of Pennsylvania, I was looking into what career was best for me, and what I wanted to achieve in my educational career. This was a lengthy and difficult process, but in the end, it led me to the path I am traveling today as a student at California University of Pennsylvania. When it came to deciding what I wanted to major in, I was very unsure.
For this essay we will be using Excelsior College as an example of [realistically] unaffordable tuition. The credit-hour cost at Excelsior, for non-military students is $490.00. At that cost a Bachelors of Science from Excelsior college would cost you $16,695 per year and $66,385 total; that is unaffordable without student loans. It is a reasonable debate on whether or not to choose college after high school with these type of tuition expenses.
“Working hard becomes a habit, a serious kind of fun. You get yourself satisfaction from pushing yourself to the limit knowing that all the effort is going to pay off” ~Sayinggoodbye.org It is extremely important to choose a career that will not only support me in the future as well as my family. With only 3 years left in highschool finding out which pathway I want to take is a crucial step in finding out which college I want to go to.
I received my first pair of glasses in the second grade. When I put them on for the first time, I entered into a different realm of reality---a reality where I could see things for what they truly were. Clear sight is one of the most important factors when living in this world because it allows us to have such great connections with it. For this reason, I aspire to become an optometrist to improve the vision of others. I may have a 20/20 vision with my glasses, but I do not need this normal eyesight to see my vision for the world.
When I first graduated high school I thought I wanted to be a pilot to fly airplanes, so I signed up to attend classes at Kishwaukee College located in DeKalb. ECC helped me sing up for classes at an in district rate because Elgin could not offer the courses that I wanted to me. During the first semester I found out that I did not want to become a pilot anymore and that I would be happier if I changed and focused on computer science. The advisors helped me schedule classes back at ECC for computer science then next semester. During the last year and a half at ECC I have been able to start fulfilling my education goals by getting a good education and find out what I want to go to college for.
Initially, my primary goal was to complete undergrad and start a medical program right after. However, towards my last year in undergrad I begin to feel that pursing a medical degree is not want I wanted to do right after I graduated, instead I wanted to teach. I was drawn to pursue STEM education as a career choice because the opportunity to have a significant impact on students excites me. The older I get the more I’ve learned the importance of student’s having influential educators in their lives. Also, after reflecting on my experience in school, I’ve learned that some of my pervious teachers has played a huge role on the avid learner that I am now, and my developed interest in science.

Through my experience leading compliance efforts on multibillion-dollar infrastructure projects for clients such as AECOM, one of the world’s largest environmental and energy engineering firms, and DC Water and Sewer Authority, the largest advanced waste water treatment plant in the world, I have gained an immense interest in energy infrastructure, which I strongly desire to employ in Africa. According to a July 25, 2015 White House report, more than 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa lack access to electricity due to poor infrastructure and low electricity generation capacities. My long-term career goal is to build a diverse portfolio of reliable, clean, and cost-effective renewable energy technologies (e.g. electrical grids) while aiming to be the #1 clean energy provider for rural and suburban communities across sub-Saharan Africa. In doing so, I hope to promote and inspire a culture of responsible and efficient energy consumption, not only across the continent of
Throughout my high school years I have accomplished many achievements due to my hard work and determination. From my freshman year to junior year, I have maintained a 3.8 GPA or higher and have a 95% attendance rate. In addition, I have taken weighted classes, such as Honors English, Honors Biology, and college Algebra, and I plan to earn gold scholar to conclude my senior year. Besides academics, I have developed my leadership skills through cheer.
My personal and professional goals are to become an administrator in the education field. I want to pursue this degree to be able to help guide teachers and future leaders on how to be successful in the classroom by using best practices in their classroom teaching and managing students. The motivation that I have for pursuing this degree is the desire to ensure that all students have the necessary tools to be successful and thrive not only in the school setting but for the long term. This degree will equip me with the resources on how to put the best practices in schools. This degree will also provide me with the resources as an administrator on how to implement various strategies within individual classrooms.
Debt is the amount of money you owe to a person, bank, etc. According to Margaret Hoover, “If you finish your four years or any post high school educations leads to increased earnings over the course of your lifetime, and that’s just undeniable.” College is worth the cost because it provides future jobs, better pay, and living environments. College gives you better job opportunities. Some people say that you do not have to go to college to get a good job.
The past four years of my life hold both my highest of highs and my lowest of lows. High school can be a very awkward time period in a person’s life. Four years ago, I made the intimidating switch from St. Mary’s School to Algoma High School. There were certain aspects of high school which made me nervous, but academics was not one of them. I learned how to be a responsible student in my earlier years, and school had always come relatively easy to me.
