This does remind me of the attack on the World Trade Center. It's much like it because it was a surprise. No one knew it was going to happen but they. The outcome was devastating. Thousands of people died during these tragedies.
With this experience, he shared what he and all the other survivors believed, “If they knew, we thought, surely those leaders would have moved heaven and earth to intervene… And now we knew, we learned we discovered that the pentagon knew” (13-14). Knowing that other countries were aware, yet decided to not assist, made them feel helpless and worthless during those times. Even after they were rescued, the image of government figures was still affected by knowing how they took too long to care. With these personal connections, he forces the audience into the perspective w of the victims, which makes them a better understanding of the consequences and the situation.
“Citizen Kane” was produced in 1941. In the year 1941 there was a lot going on throughout America such as getting over the great depression with FDR. Hitler’s run in Germany also affected the US with WWII, but that didn’t stop the young director Orson Welles. “Citizen Kane” was Welles first Hollywood film and he was only 26 years old when he directed it and acted in it. Welles was known before this film because he had a popular radio broadcast called “War of the Worlds.”
This is the first terrorist attack that we have experienced in the 21st century. President Bush spoke out to the American people to empower and soothe them in a vulnerable time. President Bush reassures citizens and the victim’s families that America and its people are not only strong but are safe and will rise up again. Bush effectively executes his 9/11 speech and uses rhetorical devices to catch the citizens attention, calm the America people and unite them together again.
Jaylen Poe Mr. Shedlock ELA 8 January 24, 2023 How Radios Affected Society The invention of the radio brought life and entertainment to all of America. It was invented to send transmitters over long distances. Broadcasters send messages using radio waves instead of wires. It began broadcasting commercials after being able to transmit sound.
The authorship controversy in regards to Orson Welles part in producing, starring and directing “one of the greatest film of all time,” in respect to the its time. The film is Welles’ attempt and is used as a superb example for the use of various filming techniques such as deep focus; chiaroscuro lighting on subjects and characters, jump cuts, long takes to which he has been praised for using all these forms of film making and combining them into one for the first time in cinematic history. It has been noted for Welles to take credit for such productions before Citizen Kane, such as when he worked with Mercury Theatre with air scripts on the radio with the acclaimed success of War of the Worlds broadcast, noting that so much publicity had been buzzed that he decided to take full authorship of the radio production even though the studios had their own writer an had been a
Though at the same time, I still do not understand how it was such a surprise to Americans and how it was so
They used this manipulation to show that people actually believe what the government says. In “Bowling for Columbine” there is a scene that Michael Moore interviews Marilyn Manson. The reason why he interviewed him was because he was getting blamed by the news reporters that he was responsible for the columbine shooting, only because of what he looked like and what he sang. This
Like Zach, I have never put it together that Orson Welles was the man behind War of the World that caused people to go into this mass hysteria. It is incredible that if you make it sound like it is believable, people will actually buy in. I have truely never see a man's voice pursuade a large portion of people to strongly. Welles uses many of the same stadegies that he used in Citize Kane to make sure the viewers or listeners never even thought about turn the screen or radio off.
The reason why Orson Welles particularly chose a flashback was so we can get to know the history of Charles Foster Kane. A flashback is a tool used in writing to allow a character to explore events occurring at a different time. The reader follows the characters thoughts as they examine and earlier situation. This can be essential to the story in that, it can give needed background information. However, sometimes a flashback can upset the rhythm of the story and, therefore, have a negative effect.
Radio and Television The music of the 1960s and 1970s definitely had an impact on culture and society in the United States. Protest music, specifically, brought ideas, as well as problems, to the attention of many Americans. Radio stations across the nation were a big part of the spread of protest music. Radio experienced a boom after World War II.
How Radio Told Stories Radio’s inability to provide a direct image to those who listened to its broadcasts meant that a program’s script had to be written with certain guidelines in order to help the audience place characters and actions; these programs also required the voice actors to record in different accents, tones, pitches, and dialects in order to be able to present an “accurate” portrayal of a different culture, race, or age. With the lack of a visual representation the writers had to make sure that their scripts would construct and consider the space between characters, as well as keep a clear and direct line of dialogue. In the comedic radio show Fibber McGee and Molly, the audience is able to construct an image representation of what they hear due to sound effects; the doorbell is used as reference point, the audience is able to place a door
What if you heard of a child genius at three who then grew up to be a ‘has been’ at age 25? Would you believe them? Doesn’t make much sense, however Orson Welles was the creative brilliance in acting, directing, writing, and producing his own work in theatre, radio, and film. Welles early life as a young adulthood after being orphaned at an early age included attending Todd School in Woodstock, Illinois, where Orson discovered his passion for the theater.
He took great pride in his radio success and ultimate film success. Welles was pleased to be the cutting edge creator of Hollywood film sound. The outstanding sound works displayed in the film Citizen Kane would not be challenged until the
Each radio broadcast was relatively similar, except for some minor tweaks to the information about the location and time period, but nonetheless people still had this fear that there were actual alien invasions in progress. With this in mind, I believe it is entirely possible for another wave of panic and terror to occur if someone were to decide to remake the “War of the Worlds” news report. In the event that an instance like this were to transpire again, I would hope that citizens would check the facts and not become irrational; however, in past experiences it is clear that people tend to panic first and ask questions later. Although, an alien invasion might not be the best way to produce fear, instead the broadcast would receive more of a reaction from the citizens if per say ISIS or some other terrorist group invaded the U.S. With that type of supposed threat against America, I have no doubt that there’d be a nationwide panic on our hands.
