Did Oscar Pistorius truly believe he was shooting a burglar or did he murder Reeva out of blind and jealous rage? In the early morning of Valentine's day in 2013, Oscar Pistorius shot Reeva Steenkamp four times through the toilet room door. Reckless action and poor decision making skills led Oscar Pistorius to unknowingly and regretfully shoot and kill his girlfriend of four months, Reeva Steenkamp.
Oscar Pistorius was born on November 22, 1986 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He was raised in Pretoria, which is located in the Northern region of South Africa. Pistorius was born without a fibula in both of his legs. Six months later, Oscar was walking. Growing up, he lived in a sports-mad house where he and his two other siblings were encouraged and supported to be athletic and active. He played water polo, rugby, cricket, tennis, wrestling, and boxing. In 2003, 16-year-old Pistorius shattered his knee playing rugby. His doctor, Versveld, recommended track for rehab. His first track race was in 2004, he ran a 100-meter dash and finished with a time of 11.72 seconds. His time broke the Paralympics current record of 12.20 seconds. Thus his Paralympic career began. In 2004, he received his famous pair of Össur Flex-Foot Cheetahs, a specially designed lightweight prosthetic made for track. Pistorius ran 100, 200, and 400 meter races for single and double leg amputees. He won six gold medals as we as one bronze and one silver in three Paralympics. Pistorius was sponsored by huge companies such as Nike, BT, Oakley and Thierry Mugler. After years of working and fighting to qualify for the Olympics, Pistorius final was able to compete in the 2012 London Olympics (“About Oscar Pistorius”).
